Departure from Karakol
Head to the regional public transport area at the Ak-Tilek Bazaar bus station in Karakol. You will need to locate Marshrutka #377 or #387 heading southwest along the lakeside highway. Boarding happens as the vehicle fills up, with multiple departures scattered throughout the day. The fare sits at an affordable 80 KGS.
Important 2026 Road Condition Advisory
⚠️ Traveler Alert: The highway connecting Karakol to Kyzyl-Suu is currently undergoing a massive, total reconstruction.
Because the asphalt is being entirely torn up and rebuilt, the road is exceptionally rough, dusty, and prone to sudden construction bottlenecks. While the distance is short, expect a slow, bumpy ride. Keep your windows zipped up tightly against the heavy dust kicked up by the heavy machinery.
Arriving and Returning
The minibus drops you off in the center of Kyzyl-Suu village. To return to Karakol, you can easily flag down the #387 or any passing shared vehicle on the main road heading back east. Minibuses typically stop running by late afternoon (around 17:00 – 18:00).
